Today at Smithville Elementary, our 2nd graders had an idiom parade and it was as fun as it sounds.

For those who might not know, an idiom is a phrase that doesn’t literally mean what it says...like “it’s raining cats and dogs” or “hold your horses.” They’re expressions we use all the time, even if they don’t make perfect sense word-for-word.

Watching kids bring these to life by dressing up, acting them out, and really getting it was such a reminder that learning sticks best when it’s hands-on and fun.

Smithville ISD had a lot to celebrate this week as Smithville Elementary student Zelda Perez took center stage at the Hello World Student Demo Day, proudly showcasing the project she built within the Hello World platform!

Zelda's participation is the result of an exciting partnership formed back in October 2025, when SISD teamed up with Hello World and EdgeConneX to bring AI literacy opportunities directly to our students. That investment in our kids is already paying off — and Zelda is proof of what's possible when students are given the tools and encouragement to explore the world of technology.

Thanks to Zelda's family for allowing her participation, and Mrs. Sandy Kadlecek for her oversight and instruction!
