Hello Smithville Elementary!!!!!
I am Amber Kristynik, the physical education teacher at the elementary. This is my 8th year with Smithville ISD and my 7th year as a p.e. teacher. I also coached volleyball and softball at the high school for 5 years.
This year in P.E we are participating in Marathon Kids. The students have to sign up and run/walk 26.2 miles. When they complete 26.2 miles by spring, the students receive a free t-shirt. This is a great way to get students and parents involved in fitness and nutrition.
We also do a fitness test that is required by the state of Texas called Fitness Gram. The students paticipate in flexiblity, curl ups, push ups, running, and sit and reach tests. The testing will be in the spring.
Smithville Elemenatry School implements the CATCH PE program recommended by the State Board of Education of Texas. CATCH PE is a developmentally appropriate physical education program which develops health related fitness, skill competency, and cognitive understanding about the importance of physical activity for all children. CATCH PE instruction provides a variety of learning experiences which address the wide-range of student ability in physical education class. CATCH PE content enhances movement skills, sports skills, physical fitness, social development, and subsequently promotes lifelong physical activity.
CATCH Physical Education will:
- Provide meaningful movement experiences which target individual fitness and skill levels of all learners.
- Increase moderate-to-vigorous physical activity in physical education class.
- Promote adequate amounts of physical activity now and
- throughout life.
- Maximize time on task and learning opportunities.
- Engage students in fun and motivating activities.
