Mr. Gonzalez - Music Page

Dear Teachers, Parents, and All Members of the Smithville Community,

I am very thrilled to be writing this letter this you regarding our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade musicals for the 2016-2017 school year. As many of you may know, putting together a musical is no easy task. It takes an ample amount of time and effort to put together a productive program. From staging, creating props and costumes to rehearsing and trying to memorize lyrics, it takes a great amount of effort from every single student at Smithville Elementary.

The students and I are very excited to be putting together these musicals for the school and community. Each grade level is required to learn a unique program. Below are the themes of each musical. I am writing this letter to not only inform you of the musical selections each grade level will present, but to encourage you to participate in making these wonderful productions come to life. I am more than willing to listen to any ideas you may have about any of the musicals and would be extremely appreciative of any donations you may have for these musicals. i.e. costumes, props, ideas.

3rd Grade

From The Inside Out: A Celebration of Positive Character

This musical strongly focuses on the subject of character. The title “From the Inside Out”, suggests that we are each responsible for our own thoughts, deeds, and development. Character is born of our own making; how we choose to react to the outside world is completely up to us. It’s a very strong and liberating concept that children need to learn as early as possible.

Musical selections to this program include:

From The Inside Out

I Promise

Responsible

My Personal Code

It Starts With Me

4th Grade

Freedom: A Musical Celebration of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness

As the name suggests, this musical is about freedom and how we as Americans are very fortunate to be living in the land of the free. This musical pays a great tribute to our lost but not forgotten soldiers who have served and to our active duty soldiers.

Musical selections to this program include:

Freedom

Knowledge is Power

Why Can’t They Be Free

Teach Me About My Freedom

Choices

5th Grade

Sing For Earth Day: Songs For Making Our Planet A Better Place

Not everyday is Earth day but with the power of this musical, students will be better informed about the planet we are fortunate to live on. In this day and age, we are finally beginning to understand the consequences of our actions and the impact they are having on our world. Wherever you look, nature is under assault and if we don’t take steps now to try and repair the damage, there might not be much of a world left for our children to pass onto theirs.

Musical selections to this program include:

This Is Our World

Mother Earth

Save The Earth

Listen To The Earth

Plant A Tree

Nature Starts A Song

Feel free to contact me at mgonzalez@smithvilleisd.org or come by my office in the Specials building anytime before or after school to share your thoughts.

4th and 5th grade final performances will take place during the month of December, before the Christmas holiday break. 3rd grade final performance will take place during the month of January, after the Christmas holiday break.Thank you in advance for all your support.

Growing Greatness!!!
Hello, I am a first year teacher here at Smithville Elementary and I am honored to be teaching music here in Smithville with such great help from the staff and community. I am from Laredo, Texas, and I graduated from United High school in 2009..After high school, I attended San Antonio College to study music education and trumpet performance with Dr. Andrew Gignac. While studying music in San Antonio, Texas for my undergrad, I was devoting my summers marching with the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corp. based out of San Antonio, Texas. After two years at San Antonio College I decided to further my education at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. I graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Studies.
